Buzios
-gorgeous beaches -

Just 105 miles from Rio de Janeiro, a pleasant 2-hour trip takes you to the peninsula of Búzios, whose more than 20 magnificent beaches and crystal-clear water contrast with the exuberantly sculptured landscape and exotic vegetation, which a prodigal "Mother Nature" has privileged with a wonderful year-round summer.

For daytime activities, there are 25 beaches each one offering selected leisure opportunities for any taste. The most visited is Geriba, which is also the most popular beach for surfers. Ferradura, as the name already suggests is in the shape of a horseshoe, full of amenities for tourists such as banana boats, canoeing, wakeboarding, and with its deep blue sea and calm waters resembles the typical beaches in the Cote d’Azur in France.

In spite of the diversity of water sports that can be practiced in this fascinating location, Buzios has the charm of a quaint sea side village. This is the result of a transformation from a fishing community to a sophisticated, yet informal resort. Founded in 1740, Buzios virtually remained unknown until 1960 when its natural beauty started to attract the Brazilian upper class. This turned the tiny fishing community into a fashionable summer resort. Buzios enjoyed its first spot under the media lens when Brigite Bardot was photographed there sauntering along the beach in 1964.

Since then the once tranquil village increasingly became more crowded, and nowadays during Carnival, New Year’s Eve, and other holidays. The Rua das Pedras is fantastic you can find several cafes, restaurants, and bars that stretch along this colonial road all the way to the port.
Buzios is a very romantic place. Sunrises and sunsets are stunning and the fishing boats just add to the charm of this place.
