Abrolhos

The Abrolhos Isle, located on Bahia South seaside 70 km from the coast, is the first National Marine Park.
The weather is tropical, with stable temperatures. There’s a high rate of humidity and pluviosity during all year long.

There are five Abrolhos rock formations: Santa Bárbara, Siriba, Redonda, Sueste and Guarita. They were formed by volcanic activities 50 million years ago. It’s interesting to tell the fact of being placed in circles and of being surrounded by the biggest, the most rare and the most wonderful South Atlantic coral reefs. That’s why, in 1983, the region joined the Unit of Conservation.

The reefs have a peculiar composition because they’re formed by solid masses of coral. Some of these masses are typical from Brazilian water, just like the Millespora brasiliensis, M. hartii and M. hispidad. Besides impressing by its exotic design, there’s also a great sort of colours and extended formations.

There’s a great variety of bird species which use the isle as a resting and landing place. They use it to reproduce or simply to supply their feeding necessity. The place keeps their favorite type of food, due to the great numbers of fish.

We can see the lizards when the weather is very hot.

The sea turtles, green and big-headed come to the beach in order to lay their eggs.

Sea mammals such as whales, show them up from June to December to deliver their babies.

There isn’t any lodging for the visitors in Marine National Park of Abrolhos.

Its way to go is by the sea. There’s a visitor’s center, with a great flow of tourists in summer time.

Diving in Abrolhos is a unique experience, a touch with a huge diversity of living sea, fish, reefs, sponges, etc.
